Dyson V12 Detect Slim Review: Design & Use
Dyson products are known for their futuristic and stylish designs. A similar design format is maintained with the Dyson V12 Detect Slim too. The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is lighter and slimmer weighing just 1.5kg on its own and 2.2kg with the Fluffy cleaner head and wand attached. It is thus easy to move around and use. 0.35L dustbin is smaller and the 11 Root Cyclone chambers generate a little less suction power than the 14 chambers in its predecessor. There is a big red power button on the top that makes its usage much easier and more convenient. The vacuum cleaner has an excellent grip and I could also use it for longer durations as it feels very light.

The Dyson V12 has a removable battery that can be charged in two ways- separately from the device or while still attached to. You can swap it with an extra battery to increase usage time but this extra battery needs to be purchased separately. The back of the vacuum cleaner has a round LCD panel that shows power mode, a countdown timer for the battery, and information about dust and dirt collected when the device is on. When it is being charged, the display shows battery level. You can switch between different modes with the help of a button just below the display screen. These modes include Eco, Auto/Medium, and Boost. Though it is costlier than its predecessor but has a smaller bin size which means it had to be emptied more frequently. Emptying is simple as it can be done by pushing the red handle on the bottom outwards which opens the lid and ejects its contents with a bit of force. Make sure you do this over a bin otherwise you will have a lot of dirt and garbage to clean up. The bin has a slim profile so it needed to be detached for proper cleaning. I cleaned it with a cloth most of the time to make sure its contents were removed. There is an indicator line on the transparent dustbin which always lets you know when the bin needs to be emptied. The bin can be washed with water too but let it dry completely before attaching it back. The removable filter at the back of the vacuum body had to be washed as it prevented the small dust particles in the vacuum cleaner from coming out. Dyson V12 Detect Slim Review: Attachments & Fittings
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim comes with 7 cleaner heads along with a wand tool to serve as an extension pipe. The heads include a Fluffy cleaner head, Direct-drive cleaner head, Hair screw tool, Combi tool, Crevice tool, Soft dusting brush, and stubborn dust brush. The charger, wall dock, and a wand clip also come with the device. 2 fittings that are new to V12 are a Fluffy Cleaner head and hair screw tool. The Fluffy tool has a green laser emitter at the bottom that shines only a few inches in front of the cleaner head. This can be turned on or off with a switch. The hair Screw tool is useful as it is designed to vacuum loose hair in a manner that prevents it from getting tangled in the rollers of the other cleaner heads. Other fittings work well and are similar to those that came with V11. These are mostly designed for specific tasks like cleaning sofas, getting into narrow gaps between car seats, etc. The 3 large fittings draw power from V12 Slim itself. These are motorized. On the other hand, non-motorized cleaner heads and fittings are backward compatible with other Dyson V Series cleaners and vice versa but motorized ones work with only V12. The wand tool is about 75cm long and is used to increase the reach of the device. This helped in cleaning ceilings and corners easier.
Dyson V12 Detect Slim Review: Battery Life
Dyson claims a runtime of 60 minutes at the Eco power setting. I used the cleaner in the Auto mode so it lasted around 40 minutes for me per charge. This is decent as I covered a large part of cleaning my house in 40 minutes. Most of the days, I did not have to charge it to complete my day’s cleaning. When there was light cleaning to do, I used the V12 vacuum cleaner for 3-4 days without charging as it easily ran for 9-10 minutes every day. Thus, I can say the battery life of the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is good. It gives different runtimes in different modes. For example, it ran for 20 minutes only in Boost mode whereas it ran for 45 minutes in Eco mode. The battery pack took around 5 hours to charge from 0 to 100%.
Dyson V12 Detect Slim Review: Performance
The suction power of the Dyson V12 is similar to Dyson V11 it is a little less but I was satisfied because it is lightweight and easy to move around. Using the Fluffy Cleaner head for floor cleaning was efficient. Tools like hair screw tool crevice tool and soft dusting brush helped in cleaning sofa and other things in the house easily. There is no omnidirectional roller head which is an issue as the existing roller blade does not move in all directions equally. Suction is average and works for everyday cleaning. I have a 2BHK house and it took me around 35-40 minutes cleaning the entire thing if there was no major mess. Sofas, ceilings, window panes, etc. were cleaned twice a week. My favorite tool has to be the hair screw tool because I was fed up with finding hair everywhere in my house. There being 3 women in the house including me, one could find hair a lot. The hair screw tool helped as it balled up all the hair on the surfaces and sent it to the dustbin for disposal. This fitting would be useful for people with pets too. Dyson V12 being a premium device has a laser dust detection system and the piezo detection system. The piezo sensor is used to measure and analyze particles sucked in by the cleaner. It is built into the cleaner and works with every fitting. The laser detection works with a Fluffy roller head and interestingly it shines a green light to illuminate dust particles on the floor making them visible. It helped me a lot as it highlighted all those tiny dirt particles which are otherwise not visible. In dark it is even more effective. I used it at night time to clean dirt on curtains and carpets. Also, the floor of the house is white so green light illuminated dust particles well. It helps you analyze if the area you are cleaning has been cleaned up or not. The stats from the piezo sensor are displayed on the LCD screen of the Dyson V12 Detect Slim in the form of bars and numbers. There are 4 bars for different size ranges of dust particles along with counters above them that show actual numbers of particles captured. 4 size categories are-
10-60 microns60-180 microns180-500 micronsLarger than 500 microns
The sensor takes 15,000 readings per second and resets itself when it hasn’t been used for a while. 10-60 microns were measured in a few minutes while 500 microns took a long time. The sensor acts differently towards every mess so these readings can’t be called 100% accurate. I also observed that when used in auto mode, the piezo sensor detected larger messed and increased suction power which was useful while cleaning doormats that were most messy. Review Verdict: Should You buy Dyson V12 Detect Slim Vacuum Cleaner?
Now the question remains is Dyson V12 Detect Slim Vacuum Cleaner worth it? I would say it is, especially if you don’t have the latest vacuum cleaner for house cleaning. It has good features like Auto mode, Laser Slim Fluffy attachment, piezo sensor, and good battery life which will make it a good companion for thorough household cleaning. It is lightweight and slim too which makes it easy to use. On the downside, the bin is slightly small and the device is expensive which are major issues but you can overlook them if you need the gadget to meet your deep cleaning needs. However, if you are not in a hurry and already have V11, then I would suggest you wait for the company to bring Dyson V15 to India, otherwise, V12 Detect Slim can be a good choice.
